Naima, a 7 year old girl from Dongri was found dead after being missing for 14 days. She had gone out to play around 9:30 pm on 30th May and never returned.
When she did not return home till late night, her family launched a search and later approached the Dongri Police Station in South Mumbai.
The Dongri Police registered a complaint by her parents on an offence of kidnapping against an unidentified person and launched a search operation.
Later, police found her corpse packed in a sack lying along the railway tracks in Wadi Bandar area.
Until now police have arrested one man with the help of CCTV footage. The accused was arrested under IPC sections 302 (murder), 363 (kidnapping) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused, who works as a helper at a local bakery, was taken into custody over suspicion on Saturday. During his interrogation, and admitted that he had killed the minor and later dumped her body nearby. Accordingly, her body was recovered from Tambakhu Galli in Wadi Bandar area near the railway tracks. Her body has been sent for postmortem and rape is yet to be confirmed.
People of Dongri, South Mumbai are protesting at the Police Station and want the culprit to be shot dead by police for this heinous crime. Some people have also started a trend on twitter #justiceforNaima
